If you want to avoid the crowds and want music with your fireworks, you can enjoy them in the comfort of your own home.

Your local PBS station broadcasts “A Capitol Fourth,” a concert followed by fireworks from Washington D.C. at 8:00 p.m. It features a star-studded line up. Click here for more information.

Also at 8:00 p.m., The Boston Pops features Rachel Platten, the popular American singer/songwriter who grew up in Newton Centre. Click here for more information.

If you want a concert followed by spectacular fireworks over the East River in New York City, check your TV listings. Information has not been published yet.

One of my patients rates the concerts this way: A Capitol Fourth has the best music, New York has the best fireworks, though you can’t beat Boston for tradition: Yankee Doodle Dandy, the 1812 Overture and those Howitzers!
